David Hazard Neil Stein, Photoworks

David has helped to launch and develop the careers of more than 200 writers during his 31 years in the publishing field. His success in mentoring writers comes from his method of training, which engages the whole person, mind and body:

“First, open the writer’s mind and give them means to develop their creative consciousness. This way you help a person locate the fires of their own creativity and sharpen their mental focus. Then you give them great writing techniques. Together — these are the skills that make for a strong writer.”

David is an author, publishing consultant, and writing coach with 30 years of professional experience. He has created bestselling lines of books for numerous publishers. As a coach, he has helped to launch the careers of more than 200 writers. He has authored more than 30 books of his own, including several award-winning and internationally bestselling titles. His 1984 book, Blood Brothers, led to the subject, Dr. Elias Chacour's Nobel Peace Prize nomination, and is now published in 21 languages.

Other bestsellers and award-winning books include: A Place Behind the World (1st Place, Fiction, ECPA) ; No Compromise: The Keith Green Story (over 1 million sold); Rekindling the Inner Fire, an 11-volume series (over 250,000 sold). David consults with publishers such as Doubleday, HarperCollins, Random House, and others.

In 2007, David founded Ascent, an organization that develops and hosts creative-growth training schools and workshops from coast-to-coast.

James Ryan

Adirondack Summit

Jim is a Naturalist and author of the acclaimed Adirondack Wildlife: A Field Guide (University Press of New England, 2009). Jim speak about the many ways you can bring passion to your writing.

A true son of the Adirondacks, Jim lives in the very heart of the mountains, in Newcomb, NY. He also commutes to Geneva, NY, where he is Professor of Biology at Hobart and William Smith Colleges.

Celebrated photographer Nathan Farb says, "Reading Adirondack Wildlife reminded me of what a precious source of life and wellbeing we have here.... One could sit down with it for a great read... or toss it in your backpack as a hiking companion for a day or week in the woods."

Jim will also lead us on guided, afternoon, nature walks to "open up" the Adirondacks as only a seasoned naturalist and lover of the wilderness can.

Mary Paladin

Adirondack Summit

Mary's world changed dramatically when her retail gift business — a 20-year labor — was destroyed by fire.

Thus began a major life transition that resulted in the writing of her first book, a story that will inspire anyone facing the need to make changes in their life. The Adirondacks that are the Other Half of Me, which combines her talent for design with an absorbing story, was published in 2009.

The courage Mary had to remake her life after devastation — along with her motivational speaking style — will inspire you.

Mary spends winters in the Susquehanna Valley of Pennsylvania and summers in the eastern Adirondacks.
